"IF YE LOVE ME KEEP MY COMMANDMENTS"

The Savior’s declaration, “If ye love me, keep my commandments,” invites us to deeply consider the sincerity of our devotion to God. While many express their love for Him, our actions, desires, and thoughts often reveal a different reality. True love is shown through sincere obedience to His teachings, engaging our whole heart, might, mind, and strength, rather than selectively following certain principles while ignoring others.

It is crucial that we assess the depth of our love and commitment. Are we offering God our complete loyalty, or just a fraction of our time and attention? If our love for Him is real, we should strive to live according to His commandments. These divine instructions are meant to protect and guide us through the challenges of our mortal journey, not to limit us. God’s boundless love for us is evident in the ultimate sacrifice of His Son. Considering this profound act of kindness, we might reflect on the Savior’s question to Peter: “Lovest thou me?”

Let us demonstrate the depth of our love for God through our actions, by showing charity, and by displaying steadfast faithfulness and dedication to His service, regardless of circumstances or temporal limitations. As recorded in John 14:15, “If ye love me, keep my commandments.”

LEARNING TO FORGIVE

Reflecting on the conversation between Jesus and Peter about forgiveness, I am struck by the disparity in how we approach seeking forgiveness from God versus extending it to one another. It seems we often readily ask for divine absolution while simultaneously holding onto resentment towards our fellow human beings. Each day, we pray for God's forgiveness, yet our hearts may remain burdened with anger. How can we truly expect to receive divine forgiveness if we are unwilling to forgive those around us? The Lord's Prayer reminds us to ask God to "forgive us our transgressions as we forgive those who transgress against us." However, we often struggle to embody this very principle in our interactions with others.
